March flowers are extremely important to insects in need of nectar and pollen. A great nectar plant for early spring is the pulmonaria (lungwort). As well as being bee friendly they also provide you with good foliage and pretty flowers in shades of blue, ice-white or pink.

Cultivation notes
Grow in humus-rich, fertile, moist but not waterlogged soil in full or partial shade

Pruning
Remove old leaves after flowering

Propagation
Propagate by division after flowering or in autumn.

Seed
These promiscuous plants hybridise and set seed freely. As a result many gardeners cut the flower heads off as soon as they fade to prevent seedlings.
